Paper the World is a humble little project dedicated to spreading simple origami of models that focus on endangered animal species. There are other purposes to this endeavour but primarily it is to educate and teach some charming origami animal figures to children so that they can enjoy the art and creativity of folding paper and making beautiful things from such common material. We also would like to encourage folks to send their models as a powerful message of love and concern to our leaders about the welfare of the animal planet and the need to safeguard earth's precious natural resources.

Origami has wonderful links with geometry and mathematics. The pattern of crease lines on the unfolded paper after a model is finished is intricate and lovely. The beauty of mathematics is self-evident. And because origami is hands-on, it is a natural medium for active learning. When folding geometric models, undeveloped mathematical skills will be utilized. In today's world, origami has been used by NASA to unfold satellites, car manufacturers for airbags, cardiologists for heart stents, researchers for optic systems and genome scientists for DNA exploration.

Some of the world's finest origami masters have contributed their outstanding imagination to create origami models on these pages that are specifically designed for children, big children and little children. Some of these models are challenging. It is our intention to include diagrams and videos of each animal model to help people to fold and ultimately enjoy the experience. The models aren't simple - origami isn't simple. But with practice and a little help, a successful folding will happen. Origami by its very nature is a sharing activity. Hundreds of origami clubs all over the globe bring together thousands of participants who share their creations, skills and imagination with each other. We invite you to join us in our world of giving, sharing and community spirit.
Robert Lang: mini Artist Profile

Robert Lang is a pioneer of the newest kind of origami -- using math and engineering principles to fold mind-blowingly intricate designs that are beautiful and, sometimes, very useful.

Robert has been working with a group of innovative scientists at one of the world’s most secretive research facilities, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California attempting to create the solar system’s largest telescope. The telescope is hoped to be as long as the island of Manhattan, incorporating a lens the size of a football field: an instrument possessing the resolution to examine earth-like planets around neighbouring stars light-years away.
